At the Bardon Counselling & Natural Therapy Centre we have a number of practitioners who provide services for pregnant women, for babies, for parents in the baby’s first year, and for children and their parents.
Jane Campbell-Kaye is one of Brisbane’s most experienced antenatal yoga
teachers. Her classes are supportive, informative and very popular.
Osteopathy can safely and comfortably help with back pain, pubic pain,
indigestion and reflux, sciatica, breathing practices during pregnancy.
Homeopathic remedies are safe to take during pregnancy, and they can
help with morning sickness, constipation, gestational diabetes, low
energy, and it can help to maximize an efficient, effective natural
birth, reducing trauma to the child.
Melinda Banks is the osteopath at the Centre who specializes in working with babies and young children, and her exceptionally gentle treatments can be very helpful for an infant suffering from symptoms such as feeding difficulties, colic, reflux, projectile vomiting, sleeping difficulties, or irritability.
Homeopathy can help heal trauma associated with birth e.g. bruising or swelling or emotional distress. Feeding difficulties, rashes, or colic can also be treated with homeopathy. Many parents appreciate being able to treat their child with a natural modality that has no side effects.
Osteopathic treatment can be very effective in easing any post-natal strain patterns or imbalances affecting the mother after giving birth. This is one of Jennie Elston’s areas of specialization. Osteopathy can also help post-natal depression.
Homeopathy can help with improving the quality and supply of breast milk, and can help reduce the supply if it’s excessive. If a mother herself needs treatment for other health issues, it is reassuring to know that homeopathy is completely safe to use while breast feeding.
Jane Campbell-Kaye offers counselling specifically for parents in their first year of parenting. Many practical, and emotional, and relationship issues can surface in this busy year, and it can be very supportive to talk these through with someone with Jane’s experience and expertise.
Both osteopathy and homeopathy can be very helpful for a wide range of childhood conditions. Osteopathy can often help with learning difficulties or behavioural issues such as ADD. It can also help with recurring ear infections, sinus problems, scoliosis, headaches and other pains, and breathing difficulties. An osteopath can assess if there has been any effect left from accidents or strains, and can treat these in a way that is comfortable for the child.
Homeopathy may be of assistance with conditions such as: allergies, breathing problems, digestive problems, headaches, poor concentration, personality disorders such as ADD, childhood grief or shock, early childhood arthritic conditions, growth pain, learning problems, acne, emotional dis-harmony during puberty, exam anxiety, and childhood or teenage depression.
Lynette Fox is an experienced counsellor using Sandplay for children and adolescents as well as adults. And Sali Smith and Maureen Finnane are experienced educational psychologists who do a lot of work with assisting children through various aspects of learning and education.
If you feel you would like help for yourself during or after pregnancy, or for your baby or child, but you are not sure which modality would be most helpful, please phone our receptionists. They and/or the director of the Centre will help you choose which practitioner would be best able to help.
